Sin Eater is written by guitarist Yasuharu Tanaka with lyrics by Fubito Endo, who also recently worked with Japanese heavy metal legends Anthem. Saber Tiger show their versatility by capturing both the pain and the anger of the Sin Eater in the eponymous song. The song tells the story of a man who has angered God and is punished with immortality, eternally consuming the sins of repentant sinners, who are given mercy in return. Understandably, because the song is very representative of the band’s sound, which balances intense riffs and dramatic melodies. Since its original release in Japan, Sin Eater has become an indispensable part of Saber Tiger’s live set. The guitars, harmonized on the minor scale, also give a sense of oppression and darkness. The presence of a fret-less bass guitar contributes in creating a gloomy atmosphere and transforms the shapes into something undefined, fluid. From the overwhelming distant structures, you can feel the gaze of a thousand eyes and every sound tears through the air like “a demon’s cry”. The background of the fool’s wanderings is a city that appears to be twisted and sharpened like a knife against the sky. The lyrics are simple and the structure of the verses aim to communicate the perpetual weaving and nodding of the fool’s mind. The song Through the Eyes Of A Mad aims, by means of the compositional spontaneity and hammering rhythm, to communicate the perceptions and give to the listener the feelings perceived by a mad man.
